Youth worldwide play a key role in food systems, whether it is production, sustainability, consumption, health, access to food, battling hunger or otherwise. Youth are successfully organising themselves through youth organisations, both nationally and internationally. However, as these organisations tend to be rather perspective-central, Netherlands Food Partnership and Wageningen University & Research took the initiative to set up Future Food Heroes. This platform facilitates the creation of a transcended network and transcended dialogue for the transformation of our food systems.
The ultimate aim of Future Food Heroes is to facilitate the organisation of youth-led action towards the UNFSS and related summits. A Food Systems Approach and transcended dialogue are key. It offers youth opportunities to expand their network in usual or unexpected ways. Moreover, the platform allows them to inform themselves on the UNFSS, on relevant (youth) organizations and networks active in the field of food system transformation, and events, initiatives and activities related to this theme. Above all, this platform offers youth the opportunity to discuss the transformation of our food systems and make themselves heard at the UNFSS, as Evi Vet and Eva Koffeman, the Dutch UN Youth Representatives on Biodiversity and Food, will use this platform to gather input for the summit.
Community on Facebook
To accomplish this, we will set up a Facebook Community. The community will have three vital functions:
- A place for sharing information, activities, opportunities, and networking
- An overview of relevant upcoming events
- In-depth, transcended discussion forum, for discussion either initiated by the partner group or users of the platform, e.g. aimed at upcoming summits
Future Food Heroes will be officially launched on June 1 by NFP, WUR and several partner organisations from civil society, private sector, knowledge institutes and UN representatives Evi Vet and Eva Koffeman.
