Introduction:
The food systems approach is increasingly being used to understand how food is produced and consumed, with an optimal outcome for human health, social justice, economic endeavour and the preservation of planetary resources. Since the UN Food Systems Summit in September 2021, it has become central to policy and practice of many international development and research organisations, multilateral organisations and in programmes and policies aiming at improving Food and Nutrition Security.
The course offers a unique opportunity to get a headstart in addressing food systems challenges and last year, more than 500 food agrifood professionals participated. To this end, the course also offers the chance to engage, discuss and share experiences with policy makers from national governments, professionals working in development organisations, NGOs, private sector, and knowledge and education institutions from across the world.
You can watch the video below, to hear from one of the facilitators, as well as some of the participants from the 2021 edition, who provide an insight and first hand impression of their experiences and how the course and has since impacted their work in transforming food systems in their home countries.
After completing the e-course you will be able to:
● Understand and work with the concept of food systems based on current academic insights;
● Understand how food systems feature in the current international policy debates;
● Commission food systems analysis in order to inform policies or interventions in the domain of food, agriculture and development;
● Work with the food system framework and make your programmes more relevant and effective to realise food system outcomes.
The deadline for application is February 1. In the selection process, we take into consideration motivation and diversity (gender, age, organisational background), as well as candidates that are involved in food system transformation in low and middle income countries.
