Biodiversity & Food Systems

Biodiversity is foundational for food security and our food systems. It builds resilience and creates opportunities. The knowledge-base behind this is strong and applies across settings in the world. Yet, our current food systems are a primary driver of biodiversity loss, and in turn this loss greatly and increasingly impacts our food systems and makes them very vulnerable.  It is a negative vicious circle that can be turned around - so that biodiversity and food systems mutually reinforce each other.
The urgency that partners express to strengthen collaboration across these silos, examples on the ground, and the growing knowledge base show that this is possible and can benefit long-term economic investments.

Our partnership on biodiversity and food systems brings together over 150 food systems and biodiversity organisations, from the public and  private sector, from civil society and knowledge & research institutes, across different sectors and scales, to help turn this vicious circle.
The partnership builds connections across sectors and scales to increase mutual understanding, agency, and capacity to collaborate and act upon biodiversity - food system linkages and to lead to stronger synergies between food and nutrition security and biodiversity.
